This ointment is designed to help seal out wetness and protect baby's skin. I was happy to try this ointment. As a mother of a short bowel syndrome baby, we battle diarrhea on a daily basis. My son has never had a formed stool and he is 18 months old. Most days, keeping his diaper area dry consists of just changing diapers every 2-3 hours. He is also on TPN and is receiving extra fluids right now so the chances of having a red bottom is far more likely. I've tried so many different creams, mixtures and ointments to treat his rashes. This cream ranks at the top of the list. It glides on smoothly and does a fantastic job with protection. My son's skin looks so much better since using this ointment. It's thick enough to provide a nice area of protection and it does a great job at treating the rash. I am very impressed with this ointment.
