It's designed to break away and prevent finger amputation.  This is a very nice band. My husband is a mechanic and he worries about damaging his wedding band when working. This is a very durable and flexible replacement band that he can wear. It's comfortable and doesn't constrict his finger. He can wear this band while at work, doing outdoor activities and even swimming. It doesn't slide off when wet so he doesn't have to worry about losing it.
